My dearly departed father-in-law, Raymond (“Dzia Dziu”) Hayes. He was always interested in my “art business,” especially after he saw me working with wooden stretcher bars as I prepared a canvas. (He liked to build stuff.) Now that this drawing is complete, Raymond will always be part of my art business, and it’s nice to see him here.
I started drawing at a very early age, with yellow-lined paper and #2 pencils. These days I use archival paper and real drawing pencils. I particularly love Stonehenge paper (used here), a 100% cotton sheet that was originally created for printmaking. It’s been a favorite for other media for years, including graphite and colored pencils.
